The key aspect of when a policy is worth the investment paid
is when a claim occurs. Claims are designed to make the insured whole again or
"indemnify". Our position is to help guide you to claims that should be filed
and ones that perhaps should not be filed to protect coverage or pricing if
they are close to deductibles or a client has a frequency issue.
When to File a Claim- The most important function of your insurance coverage is the ability to
make you whole again. It is important to remember that policies also have
deductibles and coverage limits that can impact how much you are reimbursed.
Here are some key points to ensure whether a claim should be filed:
Liability Claims – Am I or my company at fault? If you are, the law requires insurance company or agency
notification for claim filing.
Property Claims – Does the damage meet or exceed my deductible?
What am I expected to do? – For Liability claims such as Auto, General Liability, or Workman Compensation, important coverage could be denied if you delay the reporting of the accident or incident. Have as much information as possible to report to the insurance company or the agency. For Property claims, you have the responsibility to protect the property from further loss until settlement and repairs can be made. This is not always easy, especially in catastrophic weather situations. This can involve temporary repairs to the property.
What can I expect from the insurance company? – Fair and honest dealing in a reasonable timeframe. Fair and honest means applying the proper coverage of your policy to the situation paid at reasonable settlement rates. Reasonable timeframe can vary depending on the situation. An injury accident will take precedence over a fender bender without injuries. Most companies try to respond to claims in 1 to 3 days. Weather catastrophes, claims load, and nature of the claim can extend those response times. If you feel you are not getting the claim service needed, contact us immediately.
The following is a list of many of the carriers we represent, either directly or through a brokerage facility and they can be contacted to set up new claim. We have listed Toll Free numbers as well as web links. If you do not see your company or program listed, please check your policy jacket for claim details.
